“Med.In.Tra.D.E., is a transnational project co-financed by the European Union within the framework of the Community Initiative Programme Interreg III B Archimed. The project was set up after considering the increasingly strategic role – says Giovanni Ianuzziello, Vice-President of the Provincia, - of the South-Eastern Mediterranean area, in particular of Southern Italy, Greece and Turkey, taken into account the growing interest and relationships of private and public bodies. In spite of the growth of economic and cultural relationships, the South-Eastern Mediterranean area lacks a good integration of transport and logistic systems. In order to fill in this old logistic gap we have designed an operative model that can adjust the transport networks to the structural conditions, to the market opportunities, to the economic benefits of the whole production system.”
Among the project partners worth mentioning are: the Province of Brindisi; the Port Authority of Brindisi; the Region of Puglia; the Prefecture of Thesprotia; the Port Authority of Igoumenitsa; the Prefecture of Preveza and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Maritime Affairs.
The projects achieved the following results:
“It is for the need of collaborating in a common effort – underlines Carmine Nigro, President of the Provincia, – to set up steady and lasting relationships, that the district government decided to be the lead partner of a project that we hope can be continued. Already, two projects have been submitted and by the end of this year we will know whether they will be funded. As a result, with the new funds, we could extend the activities of the permanent Observatory on transport and mobility located in Matera and at the same time optimize the Middleware platform, which is a tool able to match the supply and the demand for all project partners.”
