
Katetethisan Tuesday May 20, 2008, the port proposals for the project “Strategic Plan for Development of Marine Corridors in the eastern Mediterranean”.
From Igoumenitsa Port Agency there were two proposals in cooperation with the ports of Taranto and Koper, respectively. From the ports of Ancona and Venice there were also proposals for participation with O.L.IG.
The proposal was presented in cooperation with the port of Taranto and the shipping company Medglory Shipping Ltd, based in Cyprus, on establishing a line of ships Ro-Pax between the two cooperating ports and includes a series of infrastructure and the two sides will support the activities of that line. The budget requested for infrastructure, costs and estimated equipment for OLIG amounts to approximately 5 million euro, of which 1 million euro include mature projects. The maturity of the proposal characterized as high follows a successful cooperation with the port of Taranto which involves studying of the feasibility of establishing a line between the two ports, and was conducted under the project NEWTON of Community Initiative INTERREG IIIB-ARCHIMED.
The cooperation with the port of Koper and the shipping company OLYMPIA I Shipping Company, which is based in Piraeus, concerns the establishment of a new line Ro-Ro between the two ports. The association should become an important axis for the southeastern Mediterranean and will provide an opportunity for improvement transport and trade between the two countries concerned and further in the eastern Mediterranean.
The proposal presented in cooperation with the port of Ancona includes creating a new route between Akonas - Koper, the enhancements of the existing service connection Igoumenitsa-Bari and linking the east with the west basin of the Mediterranean through the port rail link Akonas of the port of Tsivitavekias. Among the partners, the proposal involved the company LUKA KOPER dd which provides Logistics services at the port of Koper, the shipping company GRIMALDI GROUP, the shipping company ANEK LINES AE, the port of Barcelona, etc.
With the port of Venice, the proposal aims to support the transport process unaccompanied cargo, containers and bulk cargo ships with Ro-Ro/Ro-Pax. The axis movement of cargo includes the following links: - Venice Igoumenitsa, Venice - Patras Venice - Geneva - Barcelona - Tangiers, Venice - Corinth.
