
(AP) - ATHENS - During a visit to the island of Crete, the Greek Minister of Environment, Planning and Public Works, Yorgos Souflias, announced that in 2009 (and not before autumn) will be issued the tender for the construction of new airport on the island, in the resort of Kastelli. The cost for the realization of - was announced by the office Ice Athens - is estimated at around 1.2 billion euros. The new airport will replace ‘today’s'’Nikos Kazantzakis'’(the second most’ important airport in Greece) in Iraklion. The move will release ‘bathing area of about 2,780 meters long, for the development of which the Ministry will draw up’ new projects, taking into account the area attractive natural landscape.
