In the port of Patras there are planned works for the next two years to modernize existing structures, the development of deposed area / transport containers and modernization of existing marina. The news was given by the Organisation Delegate Administrative Port of Patras, Mr. S. Mammassi, who has stated that it also provides the reorganisation of the Services and the development of certified environmental management systems, hygiene and safety. The total investment is around 40 million euros.

The European Commission has released a comprehensive compilation of existing studies on external costs in the transport sector. This handbook, jointly prepared by several transport research institutes, summarises the state of the art as regards the valuation of external costs. The Commission intends to make use of the handbook as one element which prepares the communication on the internalisation of external costs for all modes of transport that is due in June 2008 and a proposal to revise the directive on the charging of heavy goods vehicles. In the hall of representation of the Provincial Administration in Brindisi, the 29th February, 2008, they held the conference “The port of Igoumenitsa and Brindisi for the construction of an intermodal logistics hub between Greece and Italy.” The laudable initiative is part of the project activities Sealink financed by the EU (INTERREG III Greece-Italy mis.1.1, az.D3) with the Provincial Administration of Brindisi as leader, together with the Prefectures of Thesprotìa and Corfu, Port Authority of Brindisi and Igoumenitsa and the Chamber of Commerce of Brindisi.
